Decolonize Judaism
Learn how to live a life of integrity, accountability, and joy by undoing the effects of capitalism, anti-semitism, colonization, racism, and white supremacy on our people.
Why This Course?
Because as Jewish People, We Need To Heal From Capitalism and Colonization.
It is hard to think about any kind of Jewish future in the present context where most of the Jewish world can tell there’s a genocide going on against the Palestinian people (which is terrifying) but they can’t quite figure out that they’re the ones pulling the trigger. I’m so proud of all the activists who are doing the work now and hanging on to hope. In the long term though, the Jewish world is so far behind when it comes to understanding Indigeneity and how it intersects with capitalism and anti semitism. If you want to think intersectionaly, build hope and community, and think about your role in all of this as a Jew, this class is for you.
Together we will examine the old ways of being Jewish in a decolonial Indigenous context and how to bring those into an authentic Jewish future. We do it by sharing our stories, learning, and doing ritual. The goal isn’t to be pretty or look good but to be real and live Jewish lives of full integrity starting with honesty, responsibility, and accountability.
Some questions we will review:
What layers of assimilation do we need to peel back to live a life of honor and integrity?
How can we be good guests on stolen Native lands?
How do we cultivate our own authentic connection to land?
What you’ll get
-
✺ Values
Together we will learn how to walk out of capitalism and towards Indigeneity by focusing on Indigenous values and using them to guide our behavior.
-
✺ Tools
You will be given concrete tools to work on behavior change so that you know how to be a good friend to yourself, other Jews, and Indigenous peoples.
-
✺Community
None of us can do this alone. We need each other to make sense of our experiences, share our triumphs and sorrows, and to build a better future together.
-
✺ Framework
Indigenous teachings guide us so that we have standards for how to behave. They give us context to be ourselves in and a path to becoming responsible community members.
-
✺ Love
We do this work by being gentle with ourselves, one step at a time. There is no rush, judgement, or harshness. Only love. Especially for the parts of ourselves that we feel fear, shame, guilt, and as we heal those parts we have more love for each other.
-
✺ Healing
When we understand the full weight of how oppressive capitalism is and the position that our people have within it, we have choices. We can choose to say no to colonization, dig deep into our roots as Jews, and heal.

A note about online participation:
Our classes are highly interactive and require active participation to establish safety.
Whenever we talk about hard things, we need a safe container to share and be ourselves in. Our goal is to connect people to one another so that we can learn and process together. This is why we limit our class sizes and ask that you have your camera on and be ready to speak in several rounds of sharing.
Class is usually divided into one opening section where we all share our names, pronouns, and get to know each other. There is then a lecture with slides to share these teachings. This is then followed by another round of sharing with the whole group. You will leave the class with questions to keep reflecting on.
We know that this takes a lot of energy and can be hard when we are all online more than ever before due to pandemic and other types of burnout. We thank you in advance for gathering the resources that you need around you and using them towards this class.
